Melkhoutkloof Guest House was designed and built as a modern Guest House
and nestles on the edge of a kloof (ravine) filled with indigenous aloes and
milkwood trees, overlooking the whole bay from Mossel Bay to Glentana.
"Melkhout" is the afrikaans word for Milkwood and "kloof" can best be described
as ravine - from there the name Melkhoutkloof.
Outeniqua Strand or Outeniqua Beach is situated in Glentana which is a small
coastal seaside resort between Mossel Bay (35 km) and George (20 km) and an
excellent base from which to explore the Garden Route, Klein (little) Karoo and
Southern Cape. Here you will still find endless pristine sandy beaches with
dolphins all year round and whales during season - from as early as April
until November.
The Garden Route of South Africa is regarded as one of the natural wonders
of the world and Mother Nature's most beautiful gift to man and lies between
Cape Town and Port Elizabeth on the Southern Coast. On the one side you'll
find the Majestic Outeniqua Mountains with its rich indigenous forests,
rivers and farmlands and on the other, the warm Indian ocean. George is the
capital of the Garden Route and situated on a plateau below the Outeniqua
Mountains.
Leaving the ocean behind and crossing the mountains, one enters the
Klein Karoo - land of great thirst. Although semi-desert, conditions are
ideal for fruit, cheese and wine produce. Oudtshoorn is the centre of the
Klein Karoo and ostrich farming industry.
